Kevin McGahern at the Comedy KARLnival

Former Republic of Telly host to headline Róisín Dubh's Tuesday night laughter fest

KEVIN MCGAHERN, the former host of Republic Of Telly, the man described by Hot Press as “one of Ireland’s quirkiest stand-ups", is making a welcome return to Galway to play the Róisín Dubh's Comedy KARLnival.

Originally from Cavan, McGahern first began stand-up in 2009 before landing the role of ‘Simcard’ in The Hardy Bucks, afterwards he took over as host of Republic of Telly. As well as performing in the top Irish comedy clubs, he has appeared at most major festivals including Electric Picnic, Forbidden Fruit, and the Edinburgh Fringe. He has presented a number of documentaries for RTE, including 2016's Kevin McGahern’s America, and has featured in the films Portrait of a Zombie (2012 ) and Flat Lake (2013 ).

Also on the bill is Sean Nolan, winner of the RTÉ New Comedy Awards. His brand of one-liner comedy has won him much praise: "Has creativity to burn...might just herald greatness," said Chortle.co.uk; "This young Irishman sure knows how to write a gag," said The List. Ronan Linskey has supported Tony Law, Brendon Burns, Eleanor Tiernan, and Aisling Bea. He has played The Stand in Glasgow and Edinburgh; The Comedy Crunch, Dublin; and The Black Box, Belfast.

The show is on Tuesday November 20 at 8pm. The MC is Karl Spain. Tickets are from www.roisindubh.net; the Ticket Desk at OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; and The Róisín Dubh.
