CCTV must be installed in Woodquay in an effort to stamp out the antisocial behaviour that is plaguing the area and more gardaí are needed to patrol its streets.
This is the view of Independent Galway City Central candidate Mike Cubbard following his meetings with Woodquay residents and listening to “many of their horror stories”.
“One couple spoke about the ongoing problem of both their car being damaged and of people urinating on the front door of their home late at night,” he said. “As recently as last week, they had the wing mirror of their car broken by a passer-by.”
Mr Cubbard is calling on the Galway City Council and the gardaí to “pay more attention” to the area.
“I often see up to six to eight guards in Eyre Square on a Saturday night,” he said. “I fail to see the requirement for them all to be in the one place and would ask they patrol the streets of Woodquay on occasion. Many youths are now congregating down by the waterside and causing major disturbance to the residents in the area.”
As well as installing CCTV, Mr Cubbard also wants the council to extend its street cleaning service to Woodquay.
