Walsh welcomes application for all-weather facility for St James GAA

An all-weather training facility at St James’ GAA grounds, on the east side of the city, is among the projects the Galway City Council is seeking funding for under the latest round of Sports Capital Grants.

The application for funding follows on from the pitch improvements as a result of a previous application. According to Fine Gael Galway City East councillor John Walsh the proposed all-weather facility will further enhance the area between the clubhouse and the main pitch and “if successful, be a huge benefit to the club”.

At the invitation of Cllr Walsh, the Minister for Sport, Brendan Griffin, recently visited the club grounds and “was clearly impressed with works recently completed and with the club’s plans for the future”.

Cllr Walsh has also welcomed the application for the construction of a hurling wall in Doughiska. He said it would be “of great benefit to children” of the local schools and also help “improve the skills of the underage players from the local Castlegar Hurling Club”.
