Dressing for events

With Communions, confirmations, weddings, and other events are around the corner, in this week’s column you will find advice on how to look fab for a big day out.

Firstly, I believe that you need to dress for yourself and love what you are wearing to feel and look good.

Most of us will probably want to buy an outfit that we will be able to wear again for other occasions or for a more casual look. In this case you could choose a dress that you will be able to dress down easily as well as being dressy enough for the occasion. This blue cream embroidery detail dress by Irish designer Louise Kennedy will do the job perfectly. Dress it down with boots and a short leather jacket for a casual look. Dress it up with a summer coat, sandals, and clutch bag.

Accessories are a great way to give a new lift to your favourite pieces. Simple details such as a silk belt over a structured jacket will add an edge to your look. For a quick, cheap, fashion transformation try Pulse Accessories.

You could mix and match pieces from your wardrobe with new buys. It will save you money and make the most of your favourite pieces. For example if you have a skirt suit in your wardrobe, wear the jacket over a trousers from Fenn Wright & Manson (great for its figure flattering trousers ), or over an LK Benneth dress. These three pieces offer a variety of looks and can be worn for many occasions.

Most boutiques across the county stock beautiful, stylish, pieces. Ail Ruin in Clarenbridge has amazing dresses with gorgeous details. Try also Kiss Boutique in Athenry; Gúna Deas in Loughrea; and Twice as Nice (for funkier pieces ); Colette Latchford (stocking the label Avoca that I like for its colours and originality and because it is easy to dress up and down ); Marian’s (stocking a great selection for everyone ); or Brown Thomas.

High-Street wise, Penney’s always has cute dresses at cute prices. Try also Savida in Dunne’s, Oasis, Next, Villa, or Warehouse.

Don’t forget a good outfit starts with good underwear. Start with a good support bra. If you are comfortable enough to wear a body shaper then go to Anthony Ryan’s or Brown Thomas. Penney’s has also body shapers for a fraction of the cost.
