When it comes to education, what you already know really matters

EQUAL Ireland has a new offering of a part time BA degree in business, enterprise, and community development (accredited by AIT ). A Galway and Westmeath information session will be held in the Maldron Hotel, Sandy Road, Galway, on Saturday November 17 from 9.30 am to 12.30pm.

EQUAL Ireland welcomes applicants who do not have the standard entry requirement, ie, a Higher Certificate, but have relevant experience in business or the voluntary/community sector. Eddie Higgins, EQUAL Ireland director, said: "EQUAL Ireland believes what people already know really matters, especially when they want to upskill or gain a degree.”

Recognition of prior learning (RPL ) has enabled hundreds of people to use their relevant work life experience to gain advanced entry to this degree. “It is a fact that even without standard entry qualifications, a person who has the right experience and learning can get advanced entry into our BA programme," Mr Higgins said. “The fact that there are no exams, all learning is measured by assignment, on average there are two locally delivered workshops a month, and the fees can be spread over the duration of the one year programme, are other notable advantages."

EQUAL Ireland is leading a group of universities from Spain, Greece, Romania, and Italy seeking to professionalise the provision of RPL to ordinary people.
