West overpowers boys from the East

The Western Regional Boys Basketball team won the Basketball Ireland Post Primary Schools U15 Tom Collins Inter-Regional in UL Arena, Limerick last Weekend.

The West team, powered by their two captains Ben Burke and Dara Walsh, met a serious challenge from the East Regional team in the All-Ireland final.

The West raced into a 10-point lead with impressive defence from Tony Ezeonu and good offensive scores from the captains and Kento O'Connor and Myles Loughrane. In the second quarter the East worked their way back into the game with some well taken scores from their captains Leinster Gomez and Daniel Carberry, but good solid defence from the West's Logan Chapper, Brian Clifford, Donagh McDonogh, Cian Marks, and excellent scores from Rory O'Sullivan, ensured the teams were level at half-time.

In the third quarter the East found it difficult to contain the scoring threat of Dara Walsh and Ben Burke, and along with Tony Ezeonu, they pushed out the lead to 10 once again.

In the final quarter Evan Fox, Robert McNulty, Paraic McNeela and Alex Gordon from the free throw line closed out the game for the West to win the most prestigious All Ireland underage title, last won in 2012.

In the semi finals the West had defeated the South-West Region, having defeated the Midlands and North in earlier pool games, while the East had defeated a much fancied South Region team in the semi final.
