Over The Edge goes political for October

Lynn Ruane and Michael Clifford to read at Galway City Library

INDEPENDENT SENATOR Lynn Ruane and the Irish Examiner's Michael Clifford, will be reading at the next Over The Edge: Open Reading at the Galway City Library.

Sen Ruane is a prominent advocate of numerous progressive causes, including reform and modernisation of Ireland's drug treatment and counselling infrastructure, universal access to education, women's reproductive rights, and LGBTQ rights. In her teens she fell into a life of petty crime and drug use, and at 15, became pregnant. It was then she decided she must rebuild her life, as recounted in her memoir People Like Me.

Michael Clifford is the author of three non-fiction books, including A Force for Justice: The Maurice McCabe Story, and Bertie Ahern and the Drumcondra Mafia (with Shane Coleman ), as well as two crime novels. In 2014, TV3's Tonight With Vincent Browne selected him as Journalist of the Year for his coverage of the Garda whistleblower story. He was named the newspaper industry's Journalist of the Year in 2016.

Also reading is John Flynn. The MC is Susan Millar DuMars. It takes place on Thursday October 25 at 6.30pm and features an open mic and the announcement of the 2018 Over The Edge New Writer of the Year competition winners. Admission is free and all are welcome.
