So said Pitchfork about the French-Canadian Krautrock, psychedelic, art punk trio who play the Róisín Dubh on Wednesday October 17 at 8pm. At the show the band - Ben Shemie (vocals/guitar ), Joseph Yarmush (guitars ), and Liam O'Neill (drums ) - will play music from the albums Zeroes QC (2010 ), Images Du Futur (2013 ), Hold/Still (2016 ), and Felt, which was released in February. Speaking about Felt, Shemie said: "This record is definitely looser than our last one. It's not as clinical. There's more swagger."
Felt was recorded in Montreal and mixed by St Vincent producer John Congleton. While the band have long cited Andy Stott and My Bloody Valentine as touchstones, the new album found them experimenting with other, more surprising, influences. Shemie's newfound vocal range and buoyant melodies, showcased on tracks like 'Make It Real' and the sax-smoothed 'Peace And Love', come on like a post-punk Sade.
Regarding the album title, Shemie reveals it has a double meaning. "Some people might think of the material," he says. "I like that that could be misconstrued. Also it's to have felt and not to feel - a little introspective, but that feeling's in the past."
