People of the Tribes: Meet Isla.

Hello, my name is Isla Mhic Dhonnacha. I was born in Isla Mujeres, Mexico and I am thriving in Connemara. I am a finalist in Miss Bikini Ireland and this is my story.

Acting, circus performing, and extreme sports have been my passion all my life. I come from a family of artists. My grandfather is a famous writer and painter, Fernando del Paso. My mother is a modern dancer who collaborated with Martha Graham and my father was a musician. Since a young age, I acted in tv shows, did fashion modelling for magazines and participated in various sports. I acted in soap operas, such as ‘Chiquititas’ and I participated in the Pan Americas as Mexico’s springboard diving champion. I landed a job offer as an instructor on the flying trapeze. There is where I met a backpacking blonde Irish boy and suddenly ‘love was in the air’, literally.

I remember the first time my Carraroe man brought me to Ireland. I fell in love with Galway. You could feel the artistry in every corner of that city, musicians, culture and lots of ‘Craic’. In shop street I received my Claddagh ring proposal, I knew then and there that I would come back and make Ireland my home and built my family. Well, here I am! living in Connemara, proud mother of a beautiful 4-year-old Galway girl.

Five years later I decided to enter Miss Bikini Ireland to challenge myself and to challenge some standards, I am 32 years old, 1.60 cm tall, a mother and housewife. I can stand for Irish womanhood and make my family proud. Miss Bikini Ireland promotes beauty as part of a healthy lifestyle. Our contests preparation includes workshops in fitness, branding and portfolio creation. My college education included business and management and I find Miss Bikini Ireland contest to be fantastic because:

1. generates jobs,

2.is fun for the contestants and entertaining for the audience

3. It is inclusive of all kinds of female beauty.

I always say that my heart is divided. I love Mexico and I love Ireland. To represent Ireland in Mexico would be such an honour for me, for that’s where the winner gets to go to represent this beautiful country. Even though I am not Irish born I have received such warm, generous support already. This doesn’t surprise me, as Irish people are famously open hearted and supportive. After all the San Patricios (Saint Patrick’s Battalion ) are still honoured and celebrated in Mexicans hearts.

I DO NEED the help of the public to make it to the top 5 finalists. One of the finalists will be chosen by the public votes
