Music lessons in Moycullen

Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe launched a proposal for a Galway School of Music last year in the hope of generating momentum in the light of the city’s growth as a cultural centre, but also because the spotlight will focus squarely on Galway for 2020, when the city will become the first capital of culture not to have a school of music.

Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe's proposal hinged on a multi-campus solution for music, spread across the city. Progress on this has been slow, but the need has not gone away. Having music lessons embedded in each community means less travel for parents on a practical level, but more, it represents an investment in the cultural life of the people living there.

Scoil Mhuire in Moycullen has been a home for Colourstrings training for years, and now feels the time has come to offer a natural progression to music performance. The school is offering lessons in violin and piano, but the piano classes are already over-subscribed, and so lists are closed on that for the moment. Violin lessons remain available with teacher Gergely Kuklis, an international soloist and orchestra leader in his native Hungary and across Europe. A chance to learn at this level is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Lessons are also open to students in the community not attending Scoil Mhuire as this is part of a larger music development project. All enquiries to [email protected].
