The GRETB Training Centre, Mervue Business Park, Galway, held its open day on Wednesday September 5 to showcase the vast range of courses available at the facility. There was a big turn out on the day and the response from the visitors to the centre was very positive.
The open day took place from 10.30am to 3.30pm and gave attendees the chance to learn more about the many training options available in full time, evening, Saturdays, blended learning, apprenticeship, and upskilling options for those in employment. There was a big response to the one-to-one guidance counselling which helped many of the visitors to choose their career options.
Keith Finnegan from Galway Bay FM interviewed Ken Farragher, the area training manager, and he spoke on the strong emphasis on developing skills that are easily transferred to the workplace, that many of the courses lead directly to employment and now funding is available for employers to upskill their own staff, details of which are available at the training centre.
Mr Farragher also spoke about the new apprenticeships available in areas such as insurance practitioner, manufacturing, and particularly accounts technician, which GRETB would encourage employers in the west to support and host an apprentices. Details of this apprenticeship and how employers can get involved are available on accountingtechniciansireland.ie
Keith Finnegan also spoke to trainees from different classes such as electrical, motor mechanics, Cisco, and HGV rigid, and they spoke on the progression that they have made since starting a course in the GRETB Training Centre.
