Friends of Merlin Woods have had a busy few weeks. For the second year running they have received funding from the Heritage Council to run workshops on Heritage Conservation and Woodland Coppicing Research Project.
The workshops run through August, September and October. The project focuses on traditional crafts and practices with leaders Fergus Packman and Debbie Reilly.
A network of beautiful old stonewalls run through Merlin Woods and Fergus Packman is a master of the technique,
Debbie Reilly has worked with coppiced wood for many years, working as part of Galway 2020, Our Place in Merlin Woods in 2016 and linking in with Friends of Merlin Woods for this project researching the effects of woodland coppicing on biodiversity of the woodland.

The workshops run from 10am-5pm meeting point is the Merlin Woods Community Garden.

This weekend Culture night in Merlin Woods takes place in Merlin Woods. It is also part of Galway’s first green/blue festival Loving Galway, which runs from September 20-30.
The Rise of the Insects takes place from 5pm on Friday 21 meeting at Merlin Woods Community garden. A theatrical vision quest exploring the interdependence of humans and insects through music, dance and humour. Audience are encouraged to dress up as their favourite butterfly, bumblebee or any wildlife creature of their choice.
