Greens to hold Drastic Plastic event this evening

'Galway’s beaches and parks are littered with plastic litter. Discarded plastic, much of it from single-use packaging'

Green Party leader Eamon Ryan TD will be among the speakers at an information evening about plastic waste, which takes place in the Galway City Museum's Kitchen Café this evening at 6pm.

Dep Ryan will speak on what the proposed Waste Reduction Bill 2017 would do to stem the tide of plastic waste. Also speaking will be NUI Galway scientist Alina Wieczorek, who will explain research being conducted by her and her team into plastic ingestion in deep sea Atlantic fish. There will also be a discussion on how individuals can reduce plastic waste and plastic packaging.

”Plastic waste is everywhere," said Pauline O’Reilly, the Green's Galway West candidate. "Galway’s beaches and parks are littered with plastic litter. Discarded plastic, much of it from single-use packaging, is causing untold damage to our marine life and wildlife. It’s easy to feel powerless against the rising tide of plastic waste, but we want to bring people together and explain what is possible to do about it.”
