A NEW work by the Irish sound artist and composer, Francis Heery, commissioned by the Galway County Council, will be performed in Yeats' Castle, Thoor Ballylee, Gort, on Friday September 21 for Culture Night.
The piece, entitled Moon Phases, is a site-specific installation and performance composed in response to WB Yeats’ A Vision, a prose work featuring a complex system of esoteric symbolism, based on the lunar cycles and the image of the gyre - a spiral or vortex. Yeats wrote it with his wife George, whose claim to have channeled the voices of otherworldly spirits provided the material for the book.
Moon Phases will run continuously from 5.30pm to 10.30pm on the ground floor of the castle, integrating live electronics and percussion with the space. This event will also include a presentation by the composer on Moon Phases and Yeats’ A Vision at 5pm.
