IS PHILL Jupitus the Renaissance man of British comedy? He is a poet, stand-up comedian, improviser, actor, artist, radio presenter, TV stalwart, and DJ. He certainly is a man with many strings to his bow.
Phill is also a regular visitor to Galway and he makes a welcome return on Tuesday September 11 to headline the Comedy KARLnival at the Róisín Dubh. He first became famous when he started as team captain on BBC2’s pop quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks in 1996, a position he held for 19 years. He has also appeared as a regular guest on QI (BBC2 ) and Alan Davies As Yet Untitled (Dave ), and in 2012 made an appearance on Live at the Apollo (BBC1 ). His live shows are legendary for his ability to drag laughs out of the chaos of his own life and the uncertain world that surrounds it.
Also on the bill are Joe Dowlin, a finalist in Ireland's Got Comedy Talent at The Laughter Lounge where he now performs his madcap, high energy, brand of comedy in the Best of the Irish weekends; and Sarah O'Gorman, NUIG Comedy Society’s manager, who has performed alongside Fred Cooke, Katherine Lynch, and Al Foran.
The MC is Karl Spain. Doors are at 8pm. Tickets are €6 in advance from Róisín Dubh; OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; and www.roisindubh.net; or €8 at door.
