BaborĂ³ present one-off game design workshop with Romero Games

GALWEGIANS AGED from 10 to 12, who want to design video games, and learn what is involved in developing a game from concept to design, will have a chance to do so at a workshop in September.

The workshop will be given by the award winning, Galway based company, Romero Games, in the Meyrick Hotel, Eyre Square, on Sunday September 30. It is hosted by the Baboró International Arts Festival for Children and sponsored by SAP.

Romero Games has been based in Galway since 2015 when founders John and Brenda Romero relocated from Silicon Valley, California, John Romero is co-creator of such titles as Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, and Quake, and has won more than 100 awards for his work.

The workshop will focus on design, art, code, and audio. Brenda Romero will give attendees the building blocks to develop a game of their own; Denman Rooke will discuss and demonstrate character and environmental drawing, and work with participants to develop their own characters; while John Romero and Keith O’Conor (Far Cry, Watch_Dogs ) will focus on code and adding audio.

All the money raised from the workshop will support Baboró's access programme, which offers subsidies and supports to ensure access to the arts for children. Baboró runs from October 15 to 21.
