Craft village to showcase the work of local producers

The work of local designers and craftspeople will be showcased at a craft village on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm at The Glass Factory at Galway Irish Crystal on the Old Dublin Road.

The Glass Factory Craft Village is the brainchild of local businessman Roger O'Sullivan, who is passionate about the heritage and culture of the city and county.

"There are so many amazingly talented producers, designers, and craftspeople in Galway who, for one reason or another, do not have a direct route to market," he says. "We want to change this with the new craft village and open up a new local, national, and international audience for these producers."

The Glass Factory Craft Village will initially run for an eight-week period from August 24 to October 14 and will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The promoters also plan to run a series of workshops, demonstrations, and events and welcome proposals from interested parties.

"Within the Galway Irish Crystal building, there is a fabulous 60-seater cinema/theatre space that is ideal for demonstrations, small productions, readings and other events. We would love to see more and more people getting involved and being part of what we hope will be a tremendous success.

"Within the craft village itself, the stalls will vary, some will have producers simply selling their wares and telling the stories of their crafts while others will see producers, artists, and designers creating their products at the stalls. This will also offer shoppers the opportunity to order custom-made pieces."

The site is also home to the Galway Irish Crystal factory store as well as Salt café and restaurant. So, visitors to the craft village can enjoy shopping and refreshments under one roof.

Free parking is available. Anyone interested in getting involved in the Glass Factory Craft Village at Galway Irish Crystal should email [email protected]
