Galway's team captain David Burke was understandably disappointed after his team's defeat to Limerick last weekend in the All-Ireland hurling final.
“You grow up winning and losing games all your life, but there is a big difference between winning and losing an All-Ireland final. It will take time to get over it, but we will dust ourselves, refocus, and go again."
Limerick, he said, had set down their agenda from the start and it took Galway some time to get to grips with it.
"We had a lot of unforced errors when we had possession of the ball, and that probably led to big scores for them."
The St Thomas man graciously acknowledged that Galway probably did not even deserve a draw.
“Their intensity and their work-rate outshone ours on the day. When they didn’t have the ball, their six forwards and two midfielders worked like dogs to get it back, and that probably set the terms of engagement for the whole day.
“That left us chasing the game the whole way and, had we got over the line or got a draw, it would probably be a bit of a robbery. When we got the second goal, we thought we would get the two points to get the draw at least, but then Graeme Mulcahy stood up and got a superb score. It was probably a sucker-punch for us.”
