Retired Olympian and World Champions walker, Olive Loughnane, who represented Galway, has been appointed to the board of Sport Ireland.
She will join two-times Paralympian Padraic Moran, and Curragh Racecourse CFO Roger O’Connor as new members on the board, announced by the Minister for T Sport, Shane Ross.
Loughnane, who grew up in Carrabane, County Galway, represented Ireland at four consecutive Olympic Games and became World Athletics Champion in 2009 after the disqualification of the original gold medallist for a drug offence.
Since retiring from competitive sport in 2013 she has been a member of the Sport Ireland high performance committee, and will shortly complete a post-graduate diploma in public management in the Institute of Public Administration.
