New start-up and innovation academy for medical technology

A series of start-up presentations to support Galway’s medical device industry will take place in September.

With the high concentration of innovative people in a tight medical device cluster in the west of Ireland, Medical Technology Ireland is hosting a start-up and innovation academy on Thursday September 27.

It includes presentations by six early-stage indigenous medical device start-ups; thought-provoking guest speakers; on-stage interviews with key device engineers; third-level institutions; Government agencies; and accelerator organisations.

These sessions will provide leading insight on topics of significant importance to all start-ups and potential stakeholders and investors in the rapidly evolving global device marketplace.

Irish venture capital has supported the generation of 20,000 jobs and Irish tech firms raised €499m in the first half of 2017. In 2018, Venture Capitalists (VCs ) ploughed €499m into Irish tech firms in the first half of this year, with second-quarter funding reaching €252m. Investment in the Irish medtech sector is increasing in Ireland year on year.

Medical Technology Ireland is inviting all investment groups, VCs, banking, business angels enterprise investment organisations, and other interested parties to attend these start-up pitches and avail of the buoyant R & D and start-up innovation environment which exists in the medical device sector in Ireland.
