Provincial title at stake for minor footballers

The Galway minor footballers (U17 ) will take on Roscommon in tomorrow's Connacht final at Hyde Park (7.30pm ).

Donal O’Faharta’s side went unbeaten in the round robin phase with recent victories over Leitrim and Mayo. They beat Roscommon comfortably in round one in Tuam Stadium, but that was a good few weeks ago and Roscommon are a different prospect in the Hyde.

The minors are already guaranteed a spot in the All-Ireland quarter finals, but with a provincial title at stake, they will be looking to continue their winning form.

Key players include an impressive half-back line of Ryan Monaghan, Tony Gill and Cathal Sweeney, who is a fine player with a good eye for scores.

Midfielders Conor Raftery and Moycullen's Paul Kelly, who is a younger brother of senior player Sean, will have a big role to play, while up front key players include full-forward Daniel Cox and Matthew Cooley, who has been in super scoring form to-date.
