GIAF lunchtime trad gigs @ Monroe’s

A music and arts fest institution returns

THE TRADITIONAL Music Showcases are a long standing Galway International Arts Festival institution, and an essential port of call for all trad and folk fans in the city.

The concerts take place at 1pm in Monroe’s, Dominick Street, The line-up is Conor Connolly (accordion ), Ronan Flaherty (fiddle ), and Brian McGrath (piano, banjo ) on Thursday July 19; Manus Maguire (fiddle ) and Gary O’Briain (mandocello, guitar ) on Friday 20; Jesse Smith (fiddle ) and Sean Gavin (uilleann pipes, flute ) on Saturday 21; vocalist Deirbhile Ní Bhrolcháin with guitarist Steve Johnston, and friends on Saturday 22; Backwest on Thursday 276; The Invisible Jug Band on Friday 27; and Jason O’Rourke (concertina ), Teresa Clarke (fiddle ), and Michael sands (guitar ) on Saturday 28. Tickets are €10.

Monroe’s also host The McCarthy Famil on July 19 at 9pm. Jacqueline (concertina ), Marion (uilleann pipes and whistle ), Bernadette (fiddle and piano ), and Tommy jr (fiddle ), were born in London to Irish parents. Their late father Tommy was a renowned piper and fiddle player. Tickets are €20.
