AILBHE REDDY “stands head and shoulders above the folk mainstream” according to The Line Of Best Fit, her music is “haunting and breathtaking” says Wonderland magazine, and Galway will see why this month.
Ailbhe plays a headline show at the Róisín Dubh on Thursday July 19 at 8pm as part of the Galway International Arts Festival. The Irish singer-songwriter, who cites Liane Le Havas, Fiona Apple, and Hundred Waters as inspirations, first came to attention in 2016 with the release of her critically acclaimed Hollowed Out Sea EP, and the single ‘Distrust’, which enjoyed more than 1.5 million streams on Spotify.
In 2017 she released the singles ‘Relent’ and ‘Fingertips’. “Lyrically it focuses on female sexuality, which is a topic I wanted to push forward and explore from a position of strength and confidence,” Ailbhe said of the latter. She also played Glastonbury, Latitude, and the Cambridge Folk Festial. This year sae new single ’Nothing To Doubt’, which was featured on the BBC Introducing mixtapeds and on tom Robinson’s BBC6 show.
