Cannon hopes Galway will become epicentre of audio-visual sector

Minister for the Diaspora and International Development Ciaran Cannon has welcomed the launch of the Government`s €200m Audio-visual Action Plan which aims to double employment in the audio-visual sector. Minister Cannon has said that given Galway’s strong creative pedigree, it is well placed to become the epicentre of the sector in Ireland.

He said he welcomes the launch of this industry-wide, long-term plan, under the Creative Ireland Programme, which will support the Government’s ambition to enable Ireland to become a global hub for the production of Film, TV drama and animation.

He said that Galway should now be able to welcome international productions.

“Ireland’s film industry has really taken off in recent years and we have also become the focus of welcome attention for international productions. In Galway in particular, we have a strong creative pedigree which encompasses huge expertise in both the artistic and technical spheres.

“We are well-placed, therefore, to become the epicentre of the Audio-Visual sector and I hope that those involved in the sector in the county will fully peruse this new Action Plan and consider how they can best take advantage of the related funding opportunities,” he said.
