AN EXHIBITION of new porcelain work by Diane Reid and Sinead O'Connell, exploring the sense of occupancy, is set to open at The Courthouse, Kinvara.
Sinead O'Connell studied ceramics at CCAM Galway. She has exhibited at the RDS Dublin, and in Cork and Ennistymon. She works primarily in porcelain using stains and underglazes for colour. "I have a deep interest in the human experience of simply existing, exploring the in-between bits of life and the importance of storytelling as a means of explanation," she says. "I’m currently immersed in the issue of the home, what it means and how it changes."
Based in Kinvara, Diane Reid studied in both Limerick and Galway and has exhibited throughout Ireland. Her current work explores "what it means to inhabit a place both literally and metaphorically". Speaking about her work she says: "I use the porcelain clay and coloured underglazes not to make simple and elegant statements, but to build forms on which I can explore detailed, repetitive, and almost obsessive patterning. Smaller, finer and more complex is my current direction."
The exhibition, hosted by KAVA, opens on Friday July 6 at 8pm, and runs until Sunday July 15. Gallery opening hours are from 11am to 4pm.
