THE HIGH Kings will play Athenry as part of their Decade - The Best of The High Kings, 10th Anniversary Tour. The show will feature new member George Murphy, who joined following the departure of original High King, Martin Furey.
The band, one of Ireland's most popular folk-music acts, play the Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry, on Saturday July 7. The tour is based around the album, Decade - Best of The High Kings. Released late last year, it entered Ireland's Independent Album Chart at No 1, staying there for three weeks, and earning a debut chart position of No 15 in the Billboard World Music chart.
"After 10 years with The High Kings, we are delighted to say we have achieved what we set out to do back in 2007," said band member Finbarr Clancy. "We have moved the Irish ballad tradition to the here and now, and are deeply honoured to become the bearers of the torch which has been borne with such power and dignity over the past half century by The Clancy Brothers and The Dubliners."
The shows on this tour will feature fan favourites from The High Kings catalog from the past 10 years, along with new material. For ticket information see www.thehighkings.com
