Host families for international students

Since 1976, families across Ireland have been welcoming international students from the Midland Language Centre

Families choose MLC because it is professional and organised, yet also friendly and supportive.

MLC says host families are "extremely important", and it wants to make sure they find working with the centre is an enjoyable experience.

"Many host families have been with us for years," says spokesperson Cladagh McCormack. "In fact we even have host mothers and fathers who grew up with their own parents hosting our students.

"The basis of our programmes is that students do not reside in a school, but instead enjoy the real Irish experience staying with an Irish family. Students are placed in families with children of a similar age, are carefully matched in terms of hobbies, and the focus is on participating in daily family life and activities."

Farm Stay

Students who choose this programme do so to join in with farming activities and experience the Irish farming lifestyle. Students cannot operate machinery, but love to get their hands dirty and get involved in everything else.

Horse Riding

Students are placed with host families who have their own horses. No lessons are involved, this programme is about the student riding with their own host family.

MLC matches students' riding ability to meet their family's preferences. A minimum of eight hours of riding is required per week, but students enjoy riding more often if possible.

Shows and other horse related activities are always exciting additional opportunities for these students.
