GIAF opens Box Office ahead of biggest festival yet

Galway International Arts Festival has opened the doors of its box office in the Galway Tourist Office on Forster Street, where the public can book tickets in person and by phone for the festival, which runs from July 16 to 29.

This week the festival also made a number of additional programme announcements. Tickets are now also on sale for the Irish debut of the 90-strong China National Traditional Orchestra, the celebrated and influential Chinese music ensemble. The concert is in The Galmont Concert Hall at The Galmont Hotel on July 24 at 8pm. Tickets are €22-€25.

This week also saw the arrival in Galway of Turner Prize-nominated artist David Mach and his team, who have started work on Mach’s festival exhibition, Rock‘n’Roll, a large-scale installation will see Mach and his team create a giant newspaper installation - involving more than 190,000 newspapers weighing in excess of 20 tonnes - in the Festival Gallery on Market Street. Meanwhile the First Thought Talks keynote address by Uachtarán na hÉireann, Michael D Higgins, has been moved from the Aula Maxima to the larger Bailey Allen Hall, at NUI Galway.

The box office is open Mondays to Saturdays from 10am to 5pm until July 7 and from Mondays to Saturdays from 10am to 5.45pm between July 9 and 28. On Sunday 22 it is open from 1pm to 5pm. Booking is also through 091 - 566577 or www.giaf.ie
