A number of properties at O’Donnellan & Joyce Auctioneers' third auction of 2018 saw the price rise above the reserve price.
The increase was not unexpected, according to O’Donnellan & Joyce Auctioneers, who knew there would be interest after a successful four week campaign.
Some 40 properties across the Wild Atlantic Way went up for auction, where bidding was "fast and furious".
"It definitely wasn’t an auction for the faint hearted," said Colm O’Donnellan of O’Donnellan & Joyce "A wonderful day in the auction room. Vendors were happy with the final prices and buyers in the room got great value."
The star of the show on the day was Marino’, 17 New Dock Street, Galway, a property with potential as a development site in the city centre. The bidding opened at €650,000 with a number of bidders in the room and on the phones. The bidding started with €50,000 increments, and after 19 bids from the floor, the property sold for €1,500,000 to a phone bidder. The beautifully proportioned 1900s' townhouse is a protected structure with immense potential for a variety of commercial/residential developments (subject to planning permission ).

19 GRATTAN COURT, FR GRIFFIN ROAD, GALWAY
Grattan Court, in an excellent location only minutes from the Prom and the heart of Salthill village, sold for €615,000 after eight bids. Bidding had opened at €550,000 and followed in quick increments of €10,000.
79 DALYSFORT ROAD, SALTHILL, GALWAY
Within walking distance of the Prom and all amenities in the locality, 79 Dalysfort Road, in a much sought after area, sold for €475,000. The bidding in the room opened at €440,000, and after eight bids the phone bidder was successful.
9 DR MANNIX AVENUE, SALTHILL, GALWAY
Situated in one of the most sought after residential areas in Salthill, and within walking distance of Salthill and the Promenade, this large detached bungalow style on a corner site sold for €490,000. Arranged over two floors with approximately 1,600 sq ft of living space throughout, 9 Dr Mannix Avenue was the opening property on the day, and attracted huge interest. Bidding opened at €350,000 and sold after a massive 28 bids.
8 GLENANAIL DRIVE, RIVERSIDE, TUAM ROAD, GALWAY
The area known as Riverside is one of Galway city’s more established residential areas. No 8 is a three-bed semi-detached house conveniently located close to Liosban Industrial Estate and a host of industrial parks. The bidding opened at €240,000 and the property sold for €250,000.
16 MCBRIDE AVENUE, MERVUE, GALWAY
No 16 McBride Avenue, probably one of the nicest properties to come to the market in this area for some time, is located in the heart of old Mervue. This three-bed family semi, presented in excellent condition, opened at €190,000. After four bids the property was withdrawn from the auction room, but sold after the auction for €220,000.
ASHFIELD HOUSE, ATHENRY ROAD, TUAM, CO GALWAY
Land of approximately 2.5 acres with detached bungalow style residence situated just five minutes’ drive from the shops and all the facilities in Tuam town attracted a huge amount of interest from the start. Bidding opened at €45,000 after bids from the floor, and the property sold for €116,000 after 35 bids.
APT 8, 16 BALLYMONEEN ROAD, KNOCKNACARRA, GALWAY
Bidding for a two bedroom first floor apartment located on the Ballymoneen Road in Knocknacarra, opened at €150,000. Situated within a small complex of only eight apartments with its own parking space, there were nine bids and the property sold for €160,000.
13 BAUNOGUE, LOUGHREA, CO GALWAY
This semi-detached house in very good condition with four double bedrooms with master en suite. attracted considerable interest at the open viewings. Bidding for this property, which is in a quiet corner of the estate with parking to the front and a small elevated garden to the rear, began at €120,000. With three parties battling it out in the auction room, it sold for €155,000 after a whopping 27 bids.
14 BAUNOGUE, LOUGHREA, CO GALWAY
Another semi-detached house on a corner site, completed to builders' finish featuring four double bedrooms with master ensuite, attracted similar attention like its neighbour. With a balcony located to the front of the property, this property, after 31 bids, sold €146,000, after opening at €110,000.
30 ABBEY GLEN, ATHENRY, CO. GALWAY
This ground floor three bed apartment with a large rear communal garden, situated within walking distance of Athenry town with all of its many amenities and with easy access to the M6 Motorway, attracted 11 bids, opening at €110,000. It sold for €125,000.
RAHOON HOUSE, ROS GEAL, RAHOON, GALWAY
This high profile listed building referred to as 'Rahoon House', with previous planning permission for 4 x two bedroom apartments, attracted plenty of bidding from the floor and the phone. Situated in Ros Geal, a residential estate of semi-detached homes within easy access of NUIG, UHG and the city centre, bidding opened at €75,000, and after a number of bids the gavel fell at €135,000.
4 BUTTERMARKET, QUAY STREET, SLIGO
This two bedroom top floor apartment with own door entrance, located in Sligo town, sold at the reserve price for €55,000
4 CALRY COURT, ST STEPHEN STREET, SLIGO
This two bedroomed first floor apartment located in the heart of Sligo town had a significant amount of interest with bidding opening at €50,000. After eighteen bids from the auction floor the hammer dropped at €74,000.
9 CUL D’EAN, ALTAMOUNT STREET, WESTPORT, CO MAYO
This three bedroom mid-terrace residence, presented in good condition and located in the heart of Westport town sold at the reserve price of €125,000.
LARGANDILL, CARRICK-ON-SHANNON, BALLINAGLERAGH, CO LEITRIM
This three bedroomed traditional style cottage standing on 0.6 acres, requiring total refurbishment internally, but with potential for an excellent holiday home or permanent residence, sold at the reserve price of €38,000.
MAIN STREET, BALLINLOUGH, CO ROSCOMMON
This three bedroom end of terrace house with a large rear garden and shed stuated in the village of Ballinlough and located close to Ballyhaunis and Castlerea, sold for €36,000. The property, which required refurbishment throughout, attracted seven bids which opened at €28,000.
