Mick Kinsella - Mr Harmonica

Galway Sessions 2018 hosts concert and classes from leading Irish harmonica player

'HAVE HARMONICA, will travel' just might be the motto of Mick Kinsella, for while he is a highly respected Irish traditional musician, he has also deployed his talents to play jazz, blues, rock, and bluegrass.

Originally from Carlow, and now living in Clare, Mick plays harmonica and English concertina. Galway will have a chance to see his talents in action when he plays The King's Head with accordionist Josephine Marsg, tomorrow at 3pm, as part of the Galway Sessions Festival. Admission is free.

Mick has recorded a number of solo albums and has also recorded with Steve Larkin, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Altan, Mícheal Ó Súilleabhain, and John Spillane. He has also worked with Scottish comedy legend Billy Connolly, and performed music for film and television. He has been teaching traditional harmonica at the Willie Clancy summer school for 13 years. For the Galway Sessions he will give a harmonica workshop in The Crane Bar, Sea Road, on Saturday at 10.30am. Participants are asked to bring a key of G harmonica.
