Féasta Sráide Mhaigh Cuilinn is going to be a very special day for Moycullen. We will be reliving memories of our past, whilst embracing our modern day use of Irish. During the 1930’s and 1940’s Moycullen locals used to have a similar celebration close to where An Furán is now. Féasta Sráide Mhaigh Cuilinn is going to be an Irish day, or “Lá Gaelach,” behind the Coach House pub from 2-6pm to have a “Street Feast” with a difference. Noel for the Coach House has kindly agreed to let us take over his car-park and transform it into a “Hub na Gaeilge” or Irish hub for the day. We want to celebrate our wonderful native language in the best way possible by having a fun day for young and old.
There will be Irish dancing, Zumba dancing as Gaeilge plus singing with the wonderfully, talented local teenage-soprano Aimee Banks and school children. Our local Irish musicians from Comhaltas will play traditional Irish music and guide us through some Sean Nós and Céilí dancing. Arlene Cookes Dance Academy will showcase some of their young dancers and All-Ireland dancers from Scoil Bhaile Nua will perform on the day too. Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin, from Futa Fata, the award-winning author, musician and writer will entertain the family with his lively songs and rapport. Our "Spraoi le Ceol" music classes in Irish for the under 5s, will have a little workshop with puppets, dancing, singing and plenty of fun.
Local clubs that promote the use of Irish in Moycullen will have stands to display the interesting work that has happened in Moycullen in the past and that will be continuing into the future too. There will also be stands to show Irish goods that help promote the Irish language also. There will be a brown bread baking demonstration from the White Gables and local people will have their home-baking to purchase too. Various craftspeople will also be demonstrating to the crowds how they make things from various materials.
Make sure you spread the word to your friends and neighbours about Féasta Sráide Mhaigh Cuilinn on Sunday the 10th June. Please send this open invitation to all to come to the Coach House in Maigh Cuilinn on June 10th from 2-6pm and báinígí sult as ár gcúltúr, teanga is bia blásta!
Míle buíochas
