The Galway Tribesmen Rugby League team face the biggest challenge of the year so far when they host the current All Ireland champions, Longhorns RL at NUIG Dangan on Saturday (2pm ).
In what promises to be a tough combative, highly entertaining game, the Tribesmen will want to continue their winning streak, having overcome the Waterford Vikings in a thrilling contest by 42-34 at Dungarvan RFC last weekend.
The game was 15 minutes old before the deadlock was broken when the Vikings registered their first try after some clever play down the left flank. However the Tribesmen retaliated minutes later when Shane Faulkner scored his first try.
Both teams showed great attacking enterprise and it was not long before the Vikings had doubled their score when their winger sneaked over in the corner, with Alan McMahon adding the conversation.
Clever footwork
Another penalty for the Tribesmen for a high tackle put them once again in the Vikings' danger zone and some clever footwork from Conor Loughrey allowed him to cross the line for four points.
The tit for tat scoring continued and the Vikings hit back with a couple, while Dave Roland scored a converted try for the Tribesmen as the home side led 20-14 at the break.
The second half was only two minutes old when Faulkner registered his second try and Loughrey converted to level the score, and when Faulkner bagged his hat trick, the Tribesmen were ahead for the first time 26-20.
Although the Vikings hit back moments later to add four points to their score, the Galway men were not going to give up their lead.
Veteran prop forward Andrew Antonio, debutant Dan Carr and Faulkner all added scores to give the visitors a hard-fought win.
