Continued success at Colleran’s auction

While the temperatures in Galway soared last week, the temperature at Colleran’s packed auction rose even higher, with six potential buyers bidding against each other in the pursuit of a city centre property.

No 23 Waterlane had more than 40 viewings prior to auction, this two/three bedroom end of terrace house is tucked away on an elevated site, in a quiet cul-de-sac overlooking a large green area, only five minutes’ stroll from Eyre Square.

Don Colleran opened the auction by indicating there was considerable interest in this property and appealed to anyone with a similar property thinking of selling to contact him, such was his confidence that this property was going to have a number of disappointed bidders.

Bidding immediately opened at the advised minimum value of €180,000 and it was not long before five people declared their interest and the bidding very quickly rose to €230,000. When it appeared to many that the house was going to sell for €230,000, Colleran delayed dropping his gavel sensing there was a little more in it. This proved to be right when a man standing at the very back of the room entered the bidding for the first time and eventually secured the property for €237,000, which was followed by a spontaneous round of applause from the packed auction.

Also sold on the day was No 111 Fr Griffin Road, a charming and very distinctive large detached property in Lower Salthill. One property that did not sell and which is now available to purchase by private treaty at a guide of only €380,000 is No 14 Rahoon Road, Shantalla, Galway. This is a large three/four bedroom detached home with a sun filled south facing back garden, which should prove attractive to anyone looking for a family home with every amenity on the doorstep, or anyone looking for an investment, due to the proximity of this property to NUIG, UHG and the city centre.
