Four Galway projects were among the prize-winners at this year's Bloom festival, which took place in the Phoenix Park, Dublin over the bank holiday weekend.
A total of 113 awards were presented to show garden and postcard garden designers, plant nurseries, and floral artists from all around the country, including medals for Bridget Morley from Oughterard; Eileen Fair, from Newcastle; and Jane Stark from Moycullen; and a Highly Commended award for the Brothers of Charity Services, Renmore and its art and horticulture group.
Bridget Morley, a member of the Galway Flower and Garden Club, received a silver-gilt medal for her entry in the ‘Microcosm’ category of the floral art competition. A bronze medal was also awarded to Eileen Fair, for her entry in the ‘In Homage To…’ category.
A silver medal was awarded to Jane Stark for her entry in the botanical category, Anthurium hybrid.
‘Feast of the Senses’, designed by the Brothers of Charity Service, Renmore, and Galway art and horticulture group, received a Highly Commended award in the Postcard Garden Awards.
This accessible, tranquil, sensory garden was designed and grown by the art and horticulture group at the Brothers of Charity. The group comprises adults with learning disabilities who, along with the help of tutors and care staff, have built and nurtured this garden. Each component is based around the five senses, with herbs, vegetables, and soft fruits interspersed among colourful vegetation planted around a garden seat. A mock waterfall feature is set within an arch that reflects light and glitters throughout the day.
