Galway Women's FC turn their attention to the Continental Tyres WNL Shield quarter-final when they travel to Dublin to face Shelbourne on Saturday (3pm ).
Galway manager Billy Clery will be heartened after his squad returned to winning ways when defeating UCD Waves 2-0 on Saturday evening in Eamonn Deacy Park. However, he will be looking for more goal-scoring accuracy and a stern defensive effort against the league's leading scorer Leanne Kiernan who has nabbed 10 already this season.
Galway dominated Waves from start to finish, but in the end they had to be content with a goal in each half after wasting goal opportunities.
The opener came on 17 minutes. Eight Galway players were involved in the build-up which saw their slick passing move the ball out of defence to Chloe Singleton, who delightfully flicked the ball over her opposite number before finding Lynsey McKey on the left wing. McKey then crossed to Aislinn Meaney at the back post, and she rifled home.
Just before the break Singleton could have made it two, but was denied by an excellent Erica Turner save. It was more of the same from Galway in the second half with McKey continuing to torment. She could have scored on 54 minutes, but saw her shot go agonisingly wide past the left hand post.
Three minutes later McKey was also central to the second goal. Sadhbh Doyle played the ball to her and a delightful one-touch return ball saw her split the defence before Doyle regained possession on the edge of the box and shot low to the left.
Two minutes later Singleton again went close, and Doyle had the ball in the net on 73 minutes, but it was ruled out for an offside in the build-up. Seventeen year old Aoife Thompson was introduced with 15 minutes and came close on three occasions, but was also denied twice by Turner.
