Noonan hat-trick sinks Galway WFC

UCD Waves will be the visitors to Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday evening with the earlier kick off time of 4.30pm.

Manager Billy Clery will be looking to get back to winning ways after a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Cork City.

With Galway and UCD Waves both level on points in the league, Clery is sure to have his side primed for this weekend’s clash.

In Bishopstown last Sunday, Galway went behind after just two minutes when Saoirse Noonan connected with an in-swinging free kick to head home.

Galway WFC fought back and were unlucky not to equalise shortly afterwards when Aislinn Meaney's shot came back off the cross bar. However midway through the half they were level when Lucia Lobatto fired home after Cork failed to clear a Galway corner.

The sides remained level until the 70th minute when referee John Paul Grey awarded the first of two penalties to Cork, adjudging Noonan had been fouled on the edge of the box when attempting an overhead kick. She dusted herself down to convert from the spot, and seven minutes later she stepped up again to complete her hat-trick, putting the game beyond Galway.

On Tuesday the draw also took place for the semi-final of the League Cup with Galway drawn away to Wexford Youths.
