The Lodge at Ashford Castle in Co. Mayo will go pink once again on June 10th when the annual ‘Pink Afternoon' supporting Breast Cancer Research will take place.
This year the event will be MC’ed by Dr. Orla Smithwick, a breast cancer survivor herself, with special guest well-known journalist, author, television and radio presenter, Matt Cooper. Speaking ahead of the event Mr. Cooper said; "I'm really happy to be coming to Mayo to offer whatever support I can to help the fundraising activities of Breast Cancer Research. My own mother had her own encounter with breast cancer, although I have to admit in retrospect that as a teenager I didn't fully understand the gravity of the situation at the time, especially as she underplayed the effects and consequences. As a husband and father to three daughters now, as well as two boys, it is something I perhaps understand and even fear a little bit more now."
This year the afternoon will begin at 12pm with a sparkling drinks reception followed by a three-course lunch with table prizes and feature a fundraising auction hosted by Ollie Turner from Galway Bay FM. One of the highlights of the afternoon will be a fashion show featuring Anthony Ryan's, Harper and Ellie Lane, Oranmore hosted by Stuart Montgomery of Stuart’s Select Style, a Fashion & Lifestyle Blogger who works with many of Irelands leading fashion brands. There will also be a number of pop-up shops for ladies to browse
The fun-filled day will also include a Milliners Showcase, featuring headpieces by Majella Dalton of Crevation Design, Gillian Duggan Designs and Brid O’Driscoll Millinery. There will also be a “Milliner’s Choice” Competition on the day where each milliner will select a lady of their choice and the winner will receive a once off head piece, just in time for the Galway Races. The day will end with some live music to send everyone home in high spirits.
It’s all in aid of Breast Cancer Research formerly the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI ). A national charity that raises funds in support of the breast cancer research team lead by Prof. Michael Kerin based at the Lambe Institute for Translational Research at University Hospital, Galway.
Tickets for the Pink Afternoon are €70 per person and there will be a special bus service running from Galway on the day. To purchase tickets and for information about the bus, call 091 863 917 or email: [email protected].
