GALWAY CHILDREN and youth will be handsomely catered for at this year’s Cúirt Festival Of Literature from April 21 to 26, with a packed programme of events aimed at them.
The Skulduggery Pleasant books of Derek Landy, featuring the adventures of a skeleton detective and his young sidekick, are proving a hit with young readers and the critics. On Tuesday April 21 at 11am in the Town Hall Theatre, Derek Landy will read from his latest book Skulduggery Pleasant: The Faceless Ones.
Cork folk singer John Spillane is also enjoying success at the moment. His Irish Songs We Learned at School album is proving to be a phenomenon. John will perform these songs in the Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday April 21 at 4.30pm.
Tim Bowler, who the Irish Independent has called “one of the truly individual voices in British teenage fiction”, will read from his work on Wednesday April 22 at 11am in the Nuns Island Theatre.
The Blind Seal, a show based on William Hamilton Maxwell’s 1832 book Wild Sports Of The West, and featuring narration by Darach Ó Tuarisc and music by Vinny Kilduff, will be performed as Gaeilge in the Nuns Island Theatre on Thursday April 23 at 11am and in English in the Town Hall Studio on Thursday April 23 at 5.30pm.
The Táin, the great national epic of Ireland centred on the war between Connacht and Ulster and the clash of Queen Meabh and Cuchullain, will be staged as a multimedia event (based on the graphic novel version by Colman Ó Raghallaigh ) in the Nuns Island Theatre on Friday April 24 at 11am.
The Young People All Ireland School Slam will take place in the Town Hall Theatre on Friday April 24 at 11am.
Joe O’Brien, the award-winning gardener and author of the popular series of books about the wonderful world of Alfie Green and his magical adventures in Arcania, will read in the Nuns Island Theatre on Saturday April 25 at 12 noon.
He will be joined by Brianóg Brady Dawson who is well known for her books Granny’s Teeth, Granny Makes A Mess, Danny’s Smelly Toothbrush, and Granny’s Secret.
