A CONCERT in the county, and the final show in the 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music series, await the ConTempo String Quartet next week, and all the upcoming shows are free.
On Thursday May 24 at 1pm, in the Church Gallery of the Ballinasloe Library, ConTempo will play Beethoven’s Cavatina from String Quartet Op 130 and his Grosse Fugue, which Stravinsky called, "an absolutely contemporary piece of music that will be contemporary forever". They will also play fugues from Bach and Mozart, Pachelbel’s Cannon, and Elaine Agnew’s Ready Stead Go.
The Mick Lally Theatre, Druid Lane will host the final 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music, starting Saturday May 26 at 11pm. Led by guest curator Matthew Berrill, the line up is Paul O’Driscoll (bass/vocals ) and Éanna Ryder (piano ), performing jazz standards and improvisations; Mayo-based banjo player Shane Mulchrone, playing Irish trad; and ConTempo performing works by Beethoven.
