AirSpeed Telecom, the telecommunications company which operates a nationwide licensed wireless radio transmission network, has been awarded a contract with Údarás na Gaeltachta to provide high speed connectivity from the Údarás na Gaeltachta headquarters in Na Forbacha, Co. Galway to their regional offices and to the Government network.
Under the terms of the new contract, AirSpeed Telecom will provide Údarás na Gaeltachta headquarters with reliable and high capacity interconnections to their regional offices as well as to the Government network. The headquarters will operate at a new improved bandwidth capacity of 100Mbps and connection to the Government network at 50Mbps.
The provision of the new high bandwidth service will be of significant benefit to businesses and companies located in Galway. Benefits include uncontended bandwidth and scaleable bandwidth provision of between 1MB and 10MB. It will also mean that companies dependent on broadband will have the added guarantee of having more than one route out for their telecommunications which will lead to greater resilience.
In addition, there will be a potential benefit to other businesses and residents in Galway in the future, as AirSpeed Telecom will be in a position to provide bandwidth and backhaul to other Internet Service Providers in the area, who in turn can provide services to business and residential customers in outlaying areas.
Seán Ó Ráighne, IT Manager, Údarás na Gaeltachta, says this increased capacity network now available to its head office will assist them in achieving efficiencies as it enables their IT systems to operate more effectively.
