Galway East TD Seán Canney has welcomed news that an application for planning permission has been lodged with Galway County Council for an eight-classroom extension to Craughwell National School.
Soeaking yesterday, he said that he has received notification from the project’s senior architect that planning documents will be lodged this week.
“It has been a long haul but I am delighted that we are now moving forward with this development, which is greatly needed. Craughwell has a growing population.
“This extension will replace prefab classrooms and provide the area with a modern learning centre. There have been many years of frustration trying to get this school to the planning stage. I have worked closely with the Office of Public Works design team and the school’s Board of Management to ensure that this much-needed facility is delivered for Craughwell,” said Dep Canney.
The full project consists of a two-storey extension of 1,628m² to the existing school. It will include eight classrooms, a general purpose sports hall, a multi-purpose room, offices for administration and the principal, a lift, toilets, car parking and a drop-off and pick-up area. There will also be improvements to the existing school.
