Special Olympics needs volunteers for tomorrow’s annual collection

The annual collection day for the Special Olympics in Galway takes place tomorrow, and organisers are calling for volunteers to help.

Some 1,200 volunteers from Connacht are needed to don volunteer bibs, shake buckets and get involved.

In addition to the on-street bucket collections, which kick off at 7am on April 20, volunteers are invited to get creative too.

“Coffee mornings, sponsored walks, and any amount of fun inventive ideas can help to raise the €600,000 in 24 hours,” says Connaught regional director Myra Merrick.

She says Galway athletes, such as 11-year-old Éadaoin O’Connor and 28-year-old Alan Murphy rely on volunteers from Galway and around the country to help raise this important amount.
