Maree women fancied to continue unbeaten run

Maree women will be in confident form when they take Swords Thunder in the National Cup semi-final in the Neptune Stadium in Cork on Saturday (4pm).

Maree defeated the Dublin side 88-59 in the first game of the season in Dublin, and they will be hotly fancied to advance to the cup final, with either Ulster Elks or Portlaoise Panthers providing the opposition at the end of the month.

Proud coaches of the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Gym Clodagh & Pete Foley from Annaghdown with their eleven year old son Finn who passed his Junior Black Belt Grading test recently with an A+ result.Finn will have to wait until he turns 16 before being eligible to test for his 1st Dan Black Belt but he is well on track.Finn has been training in the sport of Kickboxing for seven and a half years and is an active fighter with the club.He will fight on the undercard of the upcoming International Ireland V France Team Event in the Clayton Hotel on Saturday February 23 where he will face off with a Mayo opponent.

Head coach John Cunningham will be glad to see the end of this long stretch of away games as Moycullen play their last away game next weekend before returning to the NUI Galway Kingfisher gym for a lengthy stretch in the New Year.

Maree women continue winning form

There was mixed fortunes for Maree BC in cup action on Saturday, withthe men’s Superleague side bowing out of the Pat Duffy Cup when losing 83-80 at home to Griffith College Swords Thunder. However the club’s senior women are through to the Hula Hoops division one cup quarter-finals, thanks to an 86-59 win at home to Phoenix Rockets of Belfast.

That was the fourth win from four for the senior women’s side, who now face Limerick Celtics in the last eight of the competition in Limerick next month.
