The recent Connacht Cross Country Championships produced a host of sterling performances from Galway athletes.
Shannon Lee of Athenry, Arlene Earls of Loughrea, Craughwell’s Liam Moran and Jamie Spellman, and Michelle Maher and Chris McGrath of Galway City Harriers were gold medal winners at the recent championships run over two weekends.

The county minor hurling final produced a terrific game on Sunday in Kenny Park with Tommy Larkins stealing a win at the death over Turloughmore by 4-8 to 2-13.
It was an enthralling game throughout with no shortage of talking points, not least the extra time at the end of that game that allowed Jason Flynn to point a late 65 to give his side a one-point victory.

For the first time in 16 years local Galway rivals Corinthians and Galwegians will meet in an All Ireland League fixture.
The much-anticipated local derby in the Ulster Bank League division 2A will take place under floodlights tomorrow evening at Crowley Park (7.30pm). It is the club’s first league fixture under its new lights at home.

Greenfields Hockey Club put up a brave performance against a slick and skilful Corinthians side in the first round of the Irish Senior Cup, but ultimately went down by 2 - 1.
Greenfields qualified for this cup competition for the first time after winning the Irish Trophy last season, but came up against Corinthians who play their hockey in division one of the Leinster Senior League. Despite the step-up in standard, Greenfields showed they were capable of competing at the highest level.

An 18-3 victory over Benetton Treviso at the Galway Sportsground has propelled Connacht into eighth in the Pro 12 league. In grabbing their third win of the campaign before the break for the autumn internationals, Connacht leapfrogged their opponents to conclude the series of 10 games on the bounce, including the opening two Heineken Cup rounds, with a much-needed victory.
