Moycullen welcome Killester of Dublin to the NUIG Kingfisher complex this Saturday (3.45pm ) for what promises to be another close encounter in the Nivea For Men’s SuperLeague.
While Galway fans may still be catching their breath from the last Moycullen home game, a dramatic overtime win against DCU Saints, this weekend’s match-up is one not to be missed as Killester feature former Moycullen American star player Puff Summers as their leading play maker who signed in the off-season.
Moycullen won the most recent game between these teams when they upset the odds last year to beat the then reigning champions in a nail-biting contest in the Kingfisher.
Last Friday, a horrid start to the game in Cork for the visiting Moycullen team resulted in a 30-point decimation for the westerners as they fell to a fifth loss in the league, 96-66.
Moycullen had entered the game on the back of two straight wins and with genuine hopes of earning a first win away to the undefeated Demons squad.
Due to complications travelling to the game, however, Moycullen arrived at the Mardyke Arena in Cork just minutes before the game and played the early minutes of the match like a team not ready for the battle.
A barrage of early three-pointers catapulted the home side into a lead they were never to relinquish and Moycullen found themselves trailing by 13 at the end of the first quarter and 24 at the half.
Moycullen only began to get to the pace of the game in the second half, but it was far too late, losing for a finish by 30 points, 96 to 66.
Moycullen: Pat Sullivan 22, Ian Burke 10, Stephen Tummon 9, Salva Camps 7, Patrick Lyons 6, Cian Nihill 5, Dylan Costelloe 4, Paul O’Brien 2, Nollaig Cunningham 2, James O’Brien.
