Once upon a time a group of cowboys started digging wells on a very large farm. There was a lot of money to be made from digging wells even if after a while there was no need to dig any more wells. Many were badly dug wells and were simply dug to avail of the tax relief that was available to cowboys who dug wells.
One day some donkeys fell down into a well. They cried piteously for hours. The farmer decided that it just wasn't worth it to bother with some donkeys. They had served their purpose and the well needed to be covered up anyway before anyone found out the truth about why the well was dug in the first place. He really did not care about the donkey’s welfare. A donkey was just a means for the farmer to achieve his ends.

It is a fact that when few people had a job in Galway the late Christopher (Christy) Dooley of Renmore Park, had many. They were all of an amazing variety. One of them was a factory on the Mervue Industrial estate where he made parts for German railway engines. He had a specialised scrap business in Munster Avenue, the site of the old family forge, where he recycled aeroplane parts and exported them to Spain.

A cheeky burglar who tried to steal a till from a petrol station during the afternoon and pried open a locker in a hotel stealing a valuable watch was given an extra seven months in jail.
Martin Thomas Barrett (31) with an address at The Meadows, Ballybrit, appeared before Judge Mary Fahy at Galway District Court on Monday charged with a number of road traffic offences, failing to give a name, two counts of burglary, and failing to appear in court.

Fianna Fáil councillors were left isolated at Monday’s city council meeting when even their pact colleagues deserted them to support a motion condemning the Government’s handling of the economy.
Independent councillor Catherine Connolly proposed a motion of no confidence in the Fianna Fail/Green Party/Independent Government, condemning it for “the drastic consequences which the cuts in local authority funding are having on the provisions of services/housing at local level”.
