Cycle challenge honours late Jarlath McInerney

A new cycling event will be held this year in Galway in memory of the late Jarlath McInerney.

The Jarlath McInerney Memorial Cycling Event will take place around the Claddagh on Saturday June 26 in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

Jarlath McInerney, a well-known Galway solicitor who died tragically last year, was instrumental in raising funds for Crumlin Children’s Hospital through cycling and walking events.

Organisers, Galway Bay Cycling Club, with the support of the Galway Solicitors’ Bar Association, hope to continue Jarlath’s work in raising funds for the charity with this new memorial cycle.

The event, which will kick off at 5pm beside the Claddagh Hall, includes cycle races for all ages and abilities and will finish with music featuring Frankie Gavin and Friends at the Claddagh Hall.

Races are planned for boys and girls under eight at Southpark, while the race for family and friends, and a criterium for the more serious cyclists, will take a circuit from Claddagh Hall towards Fr Griffin Road to Whitestrand Road, Dr Colohan Road, Grattan Road and back to the Claddagh Hall.

The family and friends race will take four laps of the circuit, while the criterium will follow the same circuit and last for an hour and one final lap.

The roads along the circuit will be closed from 6pm to 9.30pm.
