Parents and young people are heartbroken due to forced emigration, according to Fine Gael Galway West candidate Senator Fidelma Healy Eames who said that her party has the plan to help get Galway’s 23,000 unemployed back to work.

“The most up to date figures from the Central Statistics Office show that unemployment levels have soared by almost 140 per cent in Galway since the last general election in June 2007. Twenty-three thousand people signed on in Galway last month. Fine Gael is the only party with a credible plan to address this appalling situation.

GUH budget slashed by €23 million but same level of service must be maintained, meeting told

The budget for Galway University Hospital has been slashed by €23,355,000 this year as the hospital struggles to maintain the same level of service but with substantially less funding.

According to figures released this week GUH has been allocated €242,723,000 for 2011, down from €266,078,000 last year.
