Abusive woman swallows ring and bites garda’s arm, court hears

A troubled and abusive woman tried to swallow a ring and bit a garda’s arm following her arrest for public order offences, the Galway District Court heard this week.

Donna Costello (34) with addresses given as 10 Westview, Cloonfad, Roscommon, and 142 Ard Alainn, Ballybane, Galway, appeared before Judge Aeneas McCarthy on Monday and pleaded guilty to failing to provide a name and address when directed, to resisting Garda Karina Callinan at Abbeygate Street, and assaulting the same garda at Galway Garda Station on May 13, 2010.

Oranmore man ordered to pay compensation for Race Week garda assaults

A 20-year-old Oranmore who assaulted two gardai during Race Week as they attempted to un-cuff him was given a chance to pay compensation in order to receive the benefit of the Probation Act.

Chris Egan, with an address at Lydican, Carnmore, Oranmore, appeared at Galway District Court on Monday charged with assaulting Garda Conor Barrett and Garda James O’Brien while in the custody area of Galway Garda Station on July 27, 2010.

Man accused of importing cocaine sent for trial

A 28-year-old man accused of drug related offences including importing cocaine has been sent forward for trial.

Tomasz Rokowski (28) with an address at 92 Cois Na Habhainn, Tuam, appeared before Galway District Court last week charged with possession of cocaine, contrary to Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, possession of cocaine with the intent to sell or supply, contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, as well as unlawfully importing a controlled drug, to wit cocaine, in contravention of Regulation 4(1)(c) of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 1988 and 1993, at Deerpark Industrial Estate, Oranmore, on August 23, 2010.
