Galway city and county local sports partnerships are linking with The Irish Sports Council to host a family sports day in Renmore Community Centre on Saturday.
The aim of the day is to encourage more families to get involved in playing sport together as a way of keeping fit and healthy. The event will run betweeen 12 noon and 3pm and families will have the opportunity to get involved in a range of new and old family friendly sports and activities.

Mayor of Galway city Councillor Hildegarde Naughton cut the tape and officially opened the new clubhouse for Our Lady’s Boys Club at Sea Road.
A blessing ceremony was performed by Fr Martin Whelan on behalf of the Bishop of Galway and Mayor Naughton was welcomed by club president Jim Cunningham.

Galway Music Education Partnership, which recently launched its website as part of its bid to Music Generation for funding, is calling on parents, music teachers and professional musicians to get in touch and have their say on the future of music education.
Music Generation is Ireland’s National Music Education Programme funded by U2 to the tune of €5 million and a further €2 million raised by The Ireland Funds. Galway Music Education Partnership is aiming to make a competitive bid by the November 3 deadline for funding to provide children and young people up to the age of 18 with music tuition in their own locality. It is hoped the website, www.galwaymep.com, will act as a central community resource gathering opinions and updating parents and teachers on the progress of GMEP’s application.

A city councillor has hit out at the HSE West for what she terms its refusal to spend €200,000 on the refurbishment works necessary to keep St Francis Nursing Home in Upper Newcastle open.
Cllr Catherine Connolly, a member of the health authority’s regional health forum, slammed the HSE for justifying the closure of the 33-year-old public home for “such a miserly sum”.
